Traveler Medical Assistance

Olivia, a US national working on a corporate assignment in the UK, was struggling with underlying mental health issues and feeling very isolated. Having called the Everbridge Medical Assistance number provided to her by her employer, she spoke with a clinician immediately, explaining how she was feeling.

During the initial assessment, it became apparent to the Everbridge clinician that Olivia was suffering with low mood, self-harm tendencies and potential suicidal ideation. Immediately flagging it as a high priority case, the Everbridge clinician prepared a report for the counseling team who were brought swiftly into the loop and the case was escalated.

With the seriousness of the case, it was deemed appropriate to arrange immediate face-to-face psychiatric appointments and additional support. Everbridge arranged daily sessions – booking the appointments and liaising with GPs, psychiatrists, counsellors, and other therapy providers. They ensured that Olivia knew exactly who she would be seeing, and kept in daily contact with her to ensure that she attended the sessions.

Treatment was provided via counselling sessions; psychiatry sessions for therapy and prescribing of medication; and patient follow-up to ensure that the medication was providing the immediate relief required.

Assistance team also ensured that Olivia had the medications she needed by arranging to collect and deliver her prescriptions to her. The team had regular follow-up calls with her to make sure that her condition was improving and followed up with all the professionals involved in the case, escalating any concerns.

In addition to the communication loop set up with the care providers, the team also liaised directly with Olivia’s employer to reassure them that she was receiving the support she needed.

As a result of the immediate treatment and the ongoing support provided, Olivia’s mental health condition stabilized sufficiently for her to be able to remain in the UK and continue her secondment.

The team continued to support Olivia throughout her stay, monitoring her progress and providing the additional care and treatment needed as and when her condition fluctuated. Olivia received excellent care from all the clinicians involved and expressed her sincere gratitude for the support provided by the Everbridge team. She successfully completed her secondment, confident in the knowledge that the support she needed, day or night, was only ever a phone call away.
